Congratulations to Morgan Herne (8LP), who this week competed in the Inter-school Masterchef competition run by North Lancs Training group. She took part in her round against Millie from Mount Carmel on Monday, and made it through to today’s grand final – which she won! As the youngest competitor taking part, Morgan also beat students from Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar, Shuttleworth College, and The Rose School.
With menus based on food served aboard the Titanic (for which the NLTG restaurant is named), Morgan demonstrated the skills and confidence which saw her make the Rhyddings Masterchef semi-finals for the past two years. During Monday’s heat she cooked a smoked haddock tart in filo pastry, lamb pasanda with saffron rice and mini coconut cheesecakes for dessert. Today’s final was another three course meal: a selection of canapes – cheddar and bacon devilled eggs, devils on horseback, and peach crostini; steak Marilyn Monroe with roasted potatoes and asparagus; and chocolate eclairs with vanilla cream – using the same recipe used in the kitchens on the Titanic.
Morgan has won a selection of prizes for herself, including her chef whites, apron, trophy and £50 of vouchers to spend. She has also won thirty embroidered aprons for the school.
We would like to thank North Lancs Training Group for hosting the competition and supporting the students involved. We would also like to thank the staff who have supported the competition, along with governors Mr Brunskill and Mr Hargreaves for adding to the support Morgan had today. We look forward to returning for more Masterchef next year!
Miss Bedwell and Mrs Neary.
