Rhyddings students helped to raise over £6,000 for charity in the run up to Christmas whilst helping out Santa Claus and Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club.
As part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award, Year 9 volunteers accompanied Santa’s Sleigh as it toured through the area in December collecting donations from residents. Other students gave their time helping to pack shopping bags at local supermarkets.
The money raised will be split between North West Air Ambulance, Accrington Blind Society, Oswaldtwistle Food Bank and the MS Society.
Michael Jackson from Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club said of the collection he attended: “Congratulations to everyone who was on Santa duty, especially the students of Rhyddings School who, with Paul Trickett and Carmel Cunliffe, performed so well. I was very proud of them all.
“The number of students together with Rotarians and Friends meant we had the perfect staffing. For two solid hours the students displayed enthusiasm and energy and certainly made a significant impression on me and on all Rotary members present.
“I have been going out with Santa collections for 18 years, last evening was certainly one of the best, if not the best, and this is mainly down to Rhyddings School – a marvellous evening.”
