Our Year 9 Business Studies students thoroughly enjoyed a trip to the Chocolate House in Blackburn this week.

On arrival, they were treated to a delicious hot chocolate and got the opportunity to sample some chocolate before being given a demonstration of how the chocolate is made and a tour of the business.

Three lucky students even won some delicious handmade truffles they had just seen being made in the factory kitchen.

This visit was really helpful in understanding the pros and cons of being a sole trader and also how important it is for small businesses to constantly adapt to meet customer needs and remain competitive.

Business Studies teacher Lisa Bancroft said: “Real-life experience of local business gives the students understanding that you don’t get from a textbook or a presentation. They found it both engaging and inspiring.”
