All students in Years 7, 8 currently study Spanish and they can then choose Spanish as an option to study at GCSE if they wish to continue learning a language.
In Years 7, 8 pupils study the basics of Spanish through a number of different topics which are listed below and they use all 4 skills (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking). Pupils will also learn about the culture of Spain and Spanish speaking countries and how it is different to the culture that we live in.
If a pupil decides to take Spanish as a GCSE they will revisit familiar topics in more detail and with a more extensive range of vocabulary. The GCSE is assessed across the 4 skills, each worth 25%. The exam board we use is AQA.
