Before half term, students from Year 10 took part in the Westholme STEM challenge 2017, competing against 22 teams of students from across Lancashire.

During the day James Barnes, Emily Hazlett,Thomas Johnston and Lucy Murray participated in 5 different challenges.

The challenges covered all areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and the Rhyddings team showed excellent resilience working together to complete the tasks set.

The tasks included:

Science – Classification and identification of chemical compounds & biological substances through a variety of different tests, knowledge of the human anatomy.

Technology – Building an Archimedes screw to transport large quantities of materials.

Engineering – Building and bridge across the widest span

Maths – Completing a Maths cross puzzle using AS level maths and logic questions.
