traffordtripOur Business Studies and Travel & Tourism students were in Manchester on Wednesday to research the area as a centre for both commerce and tourism as part of their coursework.

The trip began with a presentation at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium where the students were surprised by the sheer number of possible revenue streams a modern football club has as a business and the importance of digital marketing in today’s game. They were also given a guided tour of the ground, which included a stop in the changing rooms where the players’ shirts were already hanging in preparation for the Boxing Day match against Sunderland.

The students then moved on to the Trafford Centre to survey the range of businesses and advertising techniques used in the Christmas campaigns – whilst picking up a few presents for friends and family along the way.

Business studies teacher Mrs Bancroft said: “The students had a fantastic time and gained a lot from the experience, especially a few of the boys who are huge Man United fans!

“Their behaviour was impeccable throughout, a credit to both themselves and the school.”
