Rhyddings catering students recently competed against each other to determine who would go forward to the next round of the Young Chef competition organised by the Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle.
Cameron Walker, Ryan Richardson and Tamzin Riley were asked to prepare a three course meal under a time restriction and had to take into consideration: making a healthy meal, food presentation, organisation and planning, neatness and cleanliness of the working area.
Judges from the Rotary club were Zak Khan, Maureen Hartley and Susan Haworth. The judges had a difficult task, as all the meals produced were excellent, but the overall winner was Cameron Walker, whose menu of homemade tomato soup, spaghetti bolognese and strawberry mousse, just tipped the scales.
Cameron now goes forward to the District final at the Lancaster and Morecambe College in January to compete against up to 70 other potential competitors from other Rotary clubs. If successful, he could eventually go the national in Leicester, where last year’s winner received a holiday for two in Italy!
