Rhyddings have once again gone all out for charity to help raise much needed funds.

During the winter term both students and staff took part in various events on our termly charity day. These included a 5k run, bake sale and a Christmas Talent Showcase as well as the Christmas jumper non-uniform theme to collect a fantastic £1836.

Two cheques of £918 were presented to representatives of Pendleside Hospice and Cancer Research UK by our Junior Leadership Team during assembly this week.

Vicki Haydock of Pendleside Hospice said: “Two thirds of our funding comes from charity fundraising, which is over £2m per year. For us to receive nearly £1000 from a local high school is fantastic.”

Steve Farr, representing Cancer Research UK, said: “Although we are the largest cancer charity, not only in the UK, but the world, every pound still counts. Survival rates have soared and for the first time, more people survive cancer than die from it. This wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the enthusiasm and generosity of schools like Rhyddings.”
