Today saw the grand final of Rhyddings Masterchef 2013. Charlotte and Daisy were asked to cook two courses of their choice, and given the quality of cooking Miss Greenhalgh and I had seen throughout the competition, we were very much looking forward to it!
The final started with a demonstration from Raj and his chef from Raj Indian Cuisine and Lounge in Blackburn. They had come in for the quarter final, and enjoyed it so much that they came back to help us decide on the winner. They cooked up three dishes, and gave our contestants, along with quarter-finalist Luke Tomlinson and semi-finalists Morgan Herne and Kizzy Bradley, some tips on presenting their dishes.
The girls then got cooking. Charlotte cooked up a French savoury stick, followed by a plum and apple crumble. Daisy served us lamb chops rogan josh, followed by vanilla cheesecake with mandarin and ginger crumble.
We were joined by Lisa Woodhouse from the Lancashire Telegraph, who helped us judge the final. Daisy and Charlotte were also joined by their families for some support – although it was the most relaxed we’ve seen the girls! We would like to take this opportunity to thank Raj, as well as Matt and Steven from Freemasons at Wiswell for their generous donations of prizes for our contestants.
Congratulations to our Rhyddings Masterchef Champion for 2013 – Charlotte Allonby. She beat Daisy by just three points overall – showing once again how tough it’s been for us to decide. For those students who didn’t make it through this year, or who didn’t audition – see you at Masterchef 2014!
