The final of Rhyddings Masterchef was held yesterday, and what a day it was! Jess and Alannah came prepared to cook a two course meal, and were joined by plenty of supporters, including their families and lots of staff. We also had several guest judges – Raj and Abdul from Raj Indian Cuisine and Lounge in Blackburn, Kate from the Accrington Observer and of course, Mr Trickett.
Jess prepared spicy meatballs in a tomato sauce with pasta, followed by tiramisu. Alannah cooked up some marinated lamb with creamy mash, glazed carrots and green beans, followed by a raspberry millefeuille with chantilly cream and a raspberry coulis.
We also had Tim from the Lancashire Telegraph come in to take some photos – the girls were used to the paparazzi by the end of the day!
Congratulations to all of the students who took part. Josh and Autumn (semi-finalists) were presented with the “Masterchef Everyday” cookbook along with the smaller Masterchef trophy. Our runner-up, Jess, won for herself the cookbook, some kitchen equipment, an embroidered Rhyddings Masterchef chef jacket, a trophy and a voucher for Raj Indian Cuisine and Lounge; Alannah won for herself the same prizes as Jess, plus we are taking her to the Jamie Oliver restaurant in Manchester, Jamie’s Italian. The trophies were crafted by the Design and Technology department, with the remainder of prizes being donated by Mrs Cunliffe – we are very thankful!
We are immensely proud of all of the students, and the standard of competition has been set very high. It has certainly left the staff taking part in their own competition after Easter quaking with fear!
